PRE&PERI
By Caitlin Wemigwans
In 2021, as a new mother living in a pandemic, Caitlin decided to stay home full-time with her baby and start her business part-time. She took what she learned from the Fashion Your Future program and applied it to a clothing line. Her brand, Pre&Peri, is a streetwear brand featuring original Indigenous artwork inspired by Woodland Art, nature, traditional teachings and dreams. Pre&Peri believes in keeping as much of their production as possible within Turtle Island (North America) in order to maintain a clearer supply chain, ensure the social equity of the people involved in the various stages of production, support their local economy, and reduce their carbon footprint by reducing shipping distances during production. Pre- and peri- are prefixes meaning 'before and during' making Pre&Peri a fitting name for a brand that merges pre-colonial Indigenous traditions with our current 'peri-colonial' everyday life.
